The Wanderer returns!
There's a standing joke among my family and friends concerning my children's fantasy adventure series. They say "How much of it have you written? And Marilyn, my wife, joking answers for me, "Not a word." And even though that is "technically" true, it isn't an accurate representation of how much time and energy I've invested in creating, developing, and plotting the stories.
If you've ever followed my journey before, you know that my picture book "What Happens at School When You're Not There?" was published in 2014. I have a few other picture books in the works but I decided to turn my attention back to this chapter book project which I had imagined when I was in my early 20's. I gave this project the working title "The World Series" because it was a series-length fantasy adventure telling the stories of four children protagonists in four different adventure "worlds". But a lot has changed since then.
Now the series has a Prequel and a Sequel and the entire series spans 24 books. The stories feature six protagonists, antagonists of all shapes, sizes, and motivations, completely diverse settings, unique challenges, and a supporting cast of over one hundred original characters.
I have been working on this series full-time (I'm retired) for at least the past ten years. I heard that Mark Twain took seven years (from 1876 to 1883) to write "The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn", so I feel I'm in good company! I am hoping to have a first draft in the hands of an agent by the end of 2026.
I could talk for hours (Trust me on this!) about the innumerable details of this series. I cannot wait to introduce all of you to the characters that have been my constant companions during this long writing journey. I hope you will grow to love them as much as I do. I'm praying that this series will be one for which a publisher will clear his/her desk.
