Long Time - No Post!!

I haven't posted on Weebly for a long, long, long time (as the Beatles once sang). But today I thought I would share a few brief updates.

I haven't been lazy for the past year, trust me on this! I have been fervently working on my children's fantasy adventure series. What started as a 4-book series has become a 16-book series! Each of the first four books has been divided into four individual stories that delve much deeper into each protagonist's journey than originally planned. So, each story has been increased exponentially in both content and depth.

I recently saw a spreadsheet that JK Rowling used to plan her Harry Potter series, and it was staggering in its complexity and comprehensiveness. My stories are not as complicated plot-wise as Rowling's, but they are complex. And, since each story in the 4-book series (now divided as explained above) is interconnected with the other three books, there's a whole lot of planning required ahead of time. And that's what I've been doing.

Some might observe that I've been talking about these books for years and years (and years!). The criticism might be, "Fish, or cut bait!" Yes, yes, I understand! It seems like procrastination on steroids. But the fact of the matter is this: writing is hard. Life complicates our plans. And there has been a lot of life happening over the past time slot. So, ... I persist.

At the point of this writing, I have accrued at least 100 3-ring binders full of story-structure information. Some of them are plot centered. Some are filled with various outlines. Some are used for tracking subplots. Some are used for character arcs. Some are filled with ideas for motifs, symbolism, and themes. I joke with my wife that I could teach a class on writing a book, ... and I haven't even written this one yet! I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself!!

I had a February deadline for the first draft of book one. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, that deadline is slightly pushed back. But it is now at least within sight. Be watching here for updates.

Till then.
