2022!!

Did you know that when you are reading a book of fiction that the amount of REAL TIME that could have elapsed between the writing of two consecutive sentences (or for that matter, two consecutive words in a paragraph) could be minutes or hours or days (or even years!!)? It's true. The author could have stopped mid-sentence, gotten up, walked around the room (or the country for that matter) before sitting back down to write again. Or that author could have suffered a painful episode of the infamous "writer's block" and rocked back in their chair and stared at the computer screen (or notebook paper) and been completely flummoxed for who knows how long about what to write next. And then there is just LIFE. It has the funny habit of getting in the way. Sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men get waylaid. My excuse is a wacky combination of all the above.

But instead of boring you with all the (EXTREMELY BORING) details, I'd like to take a moment to celebrate a little. My new book, The World BEYOND The Toy Box is going spectacularly well. I can't wait to introduce all of you to the cast of incredibly fascinating characters that I have discovered (!) while writing this story and the dynamic plot that catapults them all into an amazing adventure. Don't hold your breath but I'm hoping to have it to a publisher by the end of 2022.

I have spent over five years developing this story and I am thrilled with it. One thing that makes the process go a little slower is that the book I am currently writing is book one in a four-book children's fantasy adventure SERIES. That means that I have to be constantly working back-and-forth between all four books (because there are plot developments that span all four books. I just finished reading the entire Harry Potter series for the second time and J.K. Rowling planted details in the earlier books that didn't fully pay off until the last one. (I'm not comparing myself to Rowling. ... but maybe some lesser-known book-writing luminary!) Writing a four-book series is hard work, let me tell you.

So, I will keep writing. Words. Sentences. Paragraphs. Chapters. Until book one (then two, then three, then four) is finished. Maybe one day someone will read one of my books and refer to it as a potential literary classic or at the very least as a most enjoyable read. One can dream, can't he? :) I'm dreaming giant-sized dreams.

Can't wait to read it Ed! You've always been an excellent storyteller whether that be on a car ride telling Joni and I to "Get down or they'll see you!" or one of the many stories you would tell at any given time.
Keep up what I'm sure is great work and I can't wait for a great read of a literary classic! (It will be to me no matter what!)
