And today I received a very disappointing (but understandable) piece of news from the elementary school district where I worked for twenty-six years before retiring this past December. Laura B. Sprague school was going to have an author's assembly for me this Spring. But due to a number of complications (including, I suppose, the numerous delays I have experienced getting my book to press), that author's assembly has been cancelled for this school year. I am a little bummed. I had wanted that author's assembly to be the very first public presentation of my book because of the special place that school holds in my heart. It was where the idea for the book was born and it is where the most influential experiences surrounding it happened. So, it is with a heavy heart that I accept this bit of information.
My publisher informed me that I would have to wait until early this week for the "soft proofs" of the front and back covers to be sent to me by the printer. This should be the last delay before my book goes to print.

Annika has come home from Half Day raving about your book not only to me, but to her little sister and brother. She is eagerly awaiting the release so we can get a copy. I'm sorry to hear your assembly has been cancelled, and hope it will be rescheduled for the fall. You will have 2 new fans in the audience! Good luck with the final stages of printing!

I was looking forward to the assembly and seeing you again. I will be in the audience when it is rescheduled and I can't wait to purchase your book. I have fond memories of you reading it to my classes.
